Hypnobirthing Classes in St Albans, Hertfordshire

You don't have to feel fearless about birth. You just deserve to feel ready for it.

Birth can feel like a huge unknown.

Hypnobirthing gives you the knowledge, practical tools and confidence to understand what is happening, know your options and feel more prepared for however your birth unfolds.

My classes are relaxed, realistic and evidence-informed, with plenty of space for questions, conversation and the things you have probably already Googled at 2am.

Hypnobirthing isn't about having the "perfect" birth

Hypnobirthing is sometimes presented as though, if you breathe properly and stay calm enough, you will have a completely intervention-free birth.

That isn't what I teach.

Hypnobirthing is about understanding how birth works, learning practical tools to help you stay calm, understanding your choices and feeling more confident making decisions about your care.

It is about helping your birth partner understand what is happening and how they can genuinely support you.

And if birth takes an unexpected turn?

Those tools do not suddenly become useless.

Feeling informed, supported and able to make decisions matters whether you give birth at home, in a birth centre, on a labour ward or by Caesarean.

The aim is not one particular type of birth.

The aim is for you to feel prepared for yours.

Private courses give us more flexibility around dates and more space to focus on your individual circumstances, questions, preferences and previous experiences.

What will you actually walk away knowing?

You do not need to memorise a textbook about childbirth.

I want you to leave the course understanding the things that will genuinely help you feel more prepared.

How birth actually works

Understand the physiology and hormones of labour, how your body responds to fear and tension, and why your environment can make a difference.

How to stay calm when things feel intense

Learn practical breathing, relaxation, self-hypnosis and anchoring techniques you can use during pregnancy, labour and birth.

Your options and choices

Feel more confident asking questions, understanding recommendations and making informed decisions about your care.

How your birth partner can genuinely help

Your partner will leave knowing what they can actually do during labour, rather than standing beside you wondering how to be useful.

How to work with your body

Explore movement, positions, comfort measures, massage and ways to create an environment that supports you through labour.

What happens when your baby arrives

We also cover what happens immediately after birth, including the birth of the placenta, your options and those first moments with your baby.

Birth partners, this course is for you too

Hypnobirthing is not something your birth partner simply comes along to watch.

They are a huge part of the course.

They will understand what is happening during labour, learn practical ways to support you and feel much more confident protecting your environment, asking questions and helping you navigate decisions.

The aim?

Less standing beside the bed feeling helpless.

More feeling like an actual part of the birth team.

Small really does mean small

I deliberately keep my St Albans hypnobirthing groups small.

My regular four-week course is limited to just three couples.

That means there is time to talk.

Time to ask questions.

Time to get to know one another.

And no feeling like you are sitting in a huge antenatal classroom trying to decide whether your question is worth putting your hand up for.

The weekend course is slightly larger, but still limited to just five couples.

I want every course to feel relaxed, personal and comfortable.

The Wise Hippo

I teach the complete Wise Hippo Birthing Programme, combining hypnobirthing techniques with practical antenatal education and birth preparation.

The course gives you tools for relaxation and self-hypnosis alongside a much wider understanding of birth, your choices and how to navigate maternity care.

For me, the most important part is not teaching you how you "should" give birth.

It is helping you feel informed and confident enough to make the choices that are right for you.

A few quick questions

When should I start hypnobirthing?

Most people begin somewhere in the second or third trimester, but there is no perfect week to start.

If you are later in pregnancy, the weekend course or private 1:1 option can work particularly well.

Does my birth partner come too?

Yes.

Prices are per couple and your birth partner is very much part of the course.

Is hypnobirthing still useful if I want pain relief or an epidural?

Absolutely.

The course is about feeling informed, calm and confident in your choices, not avoiding pain relief at all costs.

What if I am planning an induction or Caesarean birth?

You can still use many of the relaxation, preparation, communication and decision-making tools from hypnobirthing.

Ready to feel more prepared for birth?

You do not need to know exactly what kind of birth you want before joining a course.

You do not need a perfect birth plan.

And you do not need to feel fearless.

You just need somewhere to start.

Whether you choose a four-week group course, a weekend intensive or private 1:1 support, we will work through the things that can help birth feel less like a huge unknown and more like something you are ready to meet.
